"Our Military Is Waiting For You"; Trump Warns Caravan As 5,000 Troops Sent to border
Things just got way real(er).
(From The Wall Street Journal)
The U.S. military said it would send 5,200 troops to the southwest border in response to a caravan of migrants from Central America that President Trump has seized on as an issue in the Nov. 6 midterm elections.
The movement is the largest, quick deployment of active-duty U.S. troops since the response to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, when thousands arrived within days, former officials said. It is a major escalation of the U.S. response at the border, which as recently as last week was planned for 800 troops.
We are very much for immigration. We don't even have that big a problem with illegal immigration if there is legitimate economic need. But if one is going to march up to the border holding another country's flag, with hostile intent, a president of the United States would be derelict if he or she didn't make it clear that this was not OK. We have friends who think we are wrong on this point and we are OK with this. We are for the movement of human capital. We are for free markets. But don't pee in my yard. That is not acceptable. Sorry.
