Trump Administration Is Considering Substantial Afghan Troop Drawdown
It's about damn time. 17 YEARS. For almost 2 decades we've been in the place. This is where empires go to die. We KNEW this. The Greeks, the Brits, the Russians, now us. It's West Virginia with jihadis, opium, and spectacular mountains. The place sucked us in, took our money and our soldiers, and we got very little back for the effort. Let us hope this happens and that it happens soon.
Good on ya Trump. Let's come home. Not "substantially", but all the way home.

Word of the plans came a day after President Trump ordered the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Syria, an unexpected announcement that surprised many at the Pentagon.
Under the plans being considered, troops could begin to return home from Afghanistan as early as January, officials said.
Officials at the Pentagon and U.S. Central Command declined to comment. There are currently more than 14,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
